Have you ever heard of Young Carers? Do you know what one is? The definition of a young carer is someone under the age of 18 years old who looks after a member of their family who is sick, disabled, has mental health problems or drug/alcohol related problems.

What do they do?

These incredible young carers may be supporting another carer within the family or at times be the sole carer and involved in cooking, cleaning, shopping, washing, dressing, toileting, medical and emotional care and managing finances to name but a few. At the same time, they will still of course have to maintain their education and being a young carer can often have a huge impact on other aspects of their lives.

Why are we telling you all of this?

Well, because on the 10th February 2020 we will begin our annual Essential Chiropractic Easter Egg drive where we attempt to collect over 800 Easter Eggs to give to these young carers and help to make them smile. We do an Easter Egg drive because it is Dipty’s favourite time of the year and it is such a small thing that can make a big difference.

How does it work?

As we said, starting on the 10th February and running through up to and including the 21st March, we will be aiming to collect 800 Easter Eggs to give to our amazing young carers. They will then be delivered to the social workers who will distribute them to all the schools where the young carers attend.

There will be two drop off points, Essential Chiropractic as well as Half Price Bedz in Paignton. All we are asking is that the next time you’re out and about and you spot an Easter Egg, just add it to your basket and then drop it off before March 21st.

These young people do so much that for the price of an Easter Egg we can make a real difference in allowing them to realise that they are not alone, and that people care about them too. Our goal is to raise awareness of the incredible work these young carers do and make sure they still get to be the young people they are this Easter.
